Walking Together in Faith

Scripture Readings:
Psalm 27 – Trusting in God’s light and salvation.
Genesis 14:17-24 – Abram refuses earthly rewards and honors God.
Philippians 3:17-20 – Following Christ, not the ways of the world.

Lent is a journey—a season of walking in faith, turning from worldly desires, and fixing our eyes on Jesus. Today’s Scriptures remind us that when we walk in step with God, we find true peace and harmony—not through power or possessions but through trust, humility, and shared purpose.

In Genesis 14, Abram has just achieved a great victory. However, when the king of Sodom offers him wealth, he declines. Instead, Abram gives glory to God, accepting only what is fair and just. He does not seek power or riches but walks humbly in faith, knowing that God alone is his provider.

In Philippians 3, Paul urges believers to follow his example and not be consumed by earthly desires. He warns against living as "enemies of the cross of Christ"- individuals who focus on temporary pleasures instead of eternal truth. Instead, we are called to remember that "our citizenship is in heaven" and to live as those who belong to God’s kingdom.

Psalm 27 ties it all together with a prayer of deep trust: “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?” (v. 1). Walking with God means trusting not in worldly success but in His guidance and provision. When we do this together, we create a community of faith that reflects His peace and love.

Reformed theologian Karl Barth reminds us:
"To clasp the hands in prayer is the beginning of an uprising against the disorder of the world."
Barth’s words remind us that living as citizens of heaven involves resisting the world's ways that seek to divide and destroy. When we fix our eyes on God and pray for His will to be done, we align ourselves with His peace and justice. Like Abram, we choose trust over greed. Like Paul, we walk not in earthly paths but in the footsteps of Christ. Together, as people of faith, we can bear witness to God’s kingdom by choosing harmony over conflict and faith over fear.

When we walk together in faith, we find peace and harmony.  Here are a few things that help us walk together:
Trust God, Not Wealth – Like Abram, let’s seek God's kingdom above material gain.
Follow Christ’s Example – Like Paul, let’s live as citizens of heaven, not driven by earthly desires.
Encourage One Another – Faith is not a solo journey; we need each other to stay strong and walk in love.

Prayer:Lord, You are my light and my salvation. Teach me to trust in You alone, walk humbly in faith, and seek harmony with those around me. Help me to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, not chasing after the world’s rewards, but living as a citizen of Your kingdom. Unite us as a people of peace so that we may reflect Your love together. Amen.

Reflection Question: How can you walk more closely with others in faith while encouraging peace and unity as you follow Christ?
