Knotty Prayers Ministry

Our Knotty Prayers Ministry began as a Prayer Shawl Ministry in 2011. Since then, our volunteers have provided prayer shawls to many members of our community, as well as across the country. This ministry is composed of volunteers who serve God by using their time and God-given talents to create prayer shawls and other items to bring comfort and solace to those in need. In 2015, our members chose to change the name of our group to "Knotty Prayers" to symbolize what we do - creating items of warmth and comfort by tying orderly knots while we pray that God unravels the "knots" in the recipients' lives. Our name change allows us to encompass other forms of outreach within our group, for example hats and scarves for the homeless, chemo caps, NICU caps, lap blankets, and more.
As we create each item, we pray for continued blessings to follow and that the recipient will feel loved and cared for. We also pray that they will never feel alone and can always feel God's spirit. When one of our creations is presented to someone, it is a visible expression of care, concern, and God's love.
Church members may request a prayer shawl or lap blanket for anyone in need by calling the church office at 850-623-2510 or emailing a request to [email protected] . All requests should include the following information:

- Requestor's name, phone number, and email address
- Recipients' name, gender, and age group (child, teen, or adult?)
- Where is the recipient and to where should the item be delivered? (home, nursing home, hospital, etc.)
- Which item are you requesting? (prayer shawl or lap blanket)
- Please tell us a bit about why this person is in need of a prayer shawl or lap blanket

Our creations are never sold, but a donation to our ministry is gratefully accepted in whatever dollar amount you feel comfortable in giving. We also welcome donations of yarn and supplies. We are always in need of: Lion Brand Homespun yarn (3 - 4 skeins makes one shawl or lap blanket); and soft, worsted weight yarn such as Lion Brand Heartland, Caron Simply Soft, or Vanna's Choice, in soft colors (20 - 24 ounces will make one shawl or lap blanket). We also have volunteers working on tied fleece blankets for a local shelter for homeless children, so we welcome donations of fleece for this project as well. Two pieces of fleece fabric, each 1 1/2 yards long will make one blanket. Your donations of money and materials will allow our ministry to provide more items for those in need and continue spreading the gift of unconditional love!
